Yoasobi's 'Idol' Achieves Global Milestone

Japanese duo YOASOBI has achieved a historic milestone with their song "Idol," the opening theme for the anime series Oshi no Ko. Released on April 12, 2023, "Idol" became the first Japanese-language song to top the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Chart, reaching the number one position on June 5, 2023.

The song also secured the highest ranking for a Japanese act on the Billboard Global 200, peaking at number seven.

In Japan, "Idol" dominated the Billboard Japan Hot 100 for 22 non-consecutive weeks, setting a new record for the longest-running number-one song on the chart.

The music video for "Idol" further showcased its global appeal, surpassing 100 million views within 35 days, the fastest for a Japanese artist.

According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), "Idol" was the 19th best-selling global song in 2023, amassing over 1.01 billion subscription stream equivalents.

This unprecedented success underscores YOASOBI's significant impact on the global music scene, breaking language barriers and bringing Japanese pop music to a worldwide audience.
